crime intelligence improvement noted following lusikisiki arrests

Crime and violence analyst Dr. Chris de Kock believes South Africas crime intelligence has shown improvement over the past year.

His comments come after the recent arrest of four suspects linked to the murders of 18 people in Ngobozana village, Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape last month. Three arrests were made in Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday. The first suspect to be arrested in the matter abandoned his bail application in court on Tuesday.

De Kock noted that the rise in swift arrests suggests police are making progress in infiltrating criminal syndicates.

I dont want to be too optimistic, but it seems like there has been change. We see significant arrests, and sometimes quickly after an incident, like in Lusikisiki, he said.

He also acknowledged that police were under pressure to act swiftly due to the severity of the case.
