The case involving former Eskom manager Frans Hlakudi and his 11 co-accused has been postponed to March 5 next year for a pre-trial hearing at the High Court in Johannesburg.
Hlakudi faces charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering related to R1.4 million intended for the upgrade of the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga in 2017. It was argued in court that some of the co-accused are unfit to stand trial.
Henry Mamotheme, spokesperson for the Investigative Directorate, stated that the case against Lomas was combined with that of the other 11 following his extradition from the United Kingdom in September. Additionally, one of the accused, Antonio Trendade, was declared unfit to stand trial due to health issues following a medical assessment. The state has successfully applied for a separation of his case, allowing for further medical evaluation, and his matter will return to court on May 8, 2025.
