Correctional Services Launches Operation Vala

The Department of Correctional Services has launched its annual festive season initiative, Operation Vala, at the Grootvlei Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein, Free State. This operation is designed to maintain security and safety in the countrys correctional facilities throughout the holiday period.

The primary goals of Operation Vala are to prevent escapes, reduce violence within the facilities, and ensure that inmates are occupied with structured activities during the festive season. As the holidays typically bring increased movement and activity, the department is focusing on maintaining order and minimizing opportunities for escapes, assaults, or other incidents.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo highlighted the importance of keeping correctional centres secure during this time, stressing that the operation works in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies to ensure comprehensive security. He emphasized that all involved parties are united in their efforts to maintain safety and order during the festive season.
