The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications NRCS is warning consumers to be vigilant against the sale of illegally refurbished geysers.
According to the NRCS the sale of these geysers has been on the rise since 2020.
The regulator says they do not meet the mandatory specifications.
NRCS General Manager at Electrotech Business Unit Tintswalo Ntlhane says the geysers are prone to increased risk of among others electric shock and water leaks, leading to higher electricity bills for consumers.
Although refurbished geyser seemed like a cheaper alternate option, at a glance. They often come with hidden loan cost. This includes frequent repairs, high energy usage, and ultimately shorter lifespans, says Ntlhane.
