The City of Cape Town's Film Office is calling on filmmakers to apply for support for their projects, with submissions now open for productions slated for completion in the 2024/25 financial year, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The newly launched Film Support Fund seeks to finance or provide municipal services for a range of film projects produced in Cape Town, including short films, feature films, music videos, commercials, and reality TV series.

According to the City , the initiative aims to boost local economic development and generate job opportunities across the broader film and media production value chain.

In addition, the film fund aims to select projects that will support the emerging film and media talent base through upskilling and training initiatives based in Cape Town.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says: 'With this film fund, the City wants to ensure that we provide further support to an industry that already creates over 30 000 jobs and contributes to attracting direct investment into Cape Town.'
