Clairwood Residents Picket Against Logistics Park Rezoning

Residents and activists from Clairwood south of Durban will today picket outside the eThekwini Municipalitys Town Planning Offices to object to the Citys proposition to rezone the area and create a logistics park.

This comes as the Municipality continues with the 2014 resolution for the Local Area Plan, which seeks to turn the once residential area, into an industrial hub.

The move has sparked criticism as many claim Clairwood is a historic residential area.

But the Municipality contends that 95 of the people who own land in Clairwood dont actually live there.

Ravin Brijlal from the Clairwood Ratepayers and Residents Association says the city plans to remove some historic and religious sites that are significant to the history of Clairwood.
