City Power Says It Has Suspended Load Reduction Indefinitely

City of Johannesburgs power utility, City Power says it has suspended load reduction indefinitely.

It says this follows improvements in the functioning of the system that led to the reduction in the number of high-consumption substations.

Load reduction had been implemented in some areas where people had illegally connected to the grid - putting a strain on substations.

Load reduction had been paused during the festive season due to low demand but was set to resume this month.

Speaking at the Human Rights Commissions inquiry into load reductions impact on human rights in Johannesburg, City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the grid has stabilised.
