This weekend, the City of Cape Town will support an epic drag racing contest by locals at Killarney International Raceway , Cape {town} Etc reports.

The ' National Battle for Bragging Rights ' follows a street racing event held at Killarney last weekend, in which more than 200 racers participated.

'For a long time we have worked closely with the management of Killarney racing, and as a first for South Africa, normal street cars [can] compete with each other on an internationally acclaimed raceway,' said Alderman JP Smith, Cape Town's Mayco member for safety and security.

'Their Robot racing and Street to Strip events have really taken off. Moving the street racing phenomenon off the streets and into a safe environment is our only goal.'

In his comment section on Facebook, Smith explained that the City is working on including spinners in these events as well.
