City Engages Over 10 000 Times With Homeless Since 2024

The City has reported an impressive tally of over 10 000 engagements with individuals living on the streets since July 2024, showcasing a significant commitment to practical solutions for people without homes, Cape town Etc reports.

The work of the Street People Programme Unit has resulted in 1 053 shelter placements, 22 successful family reunifications and access to substance abuse treatment for 144 individuals, offering rays of hope in an often-challenging landscape.

The Citys comprehensive service offerings for the unhoused include reintegration programmes and robust support aimed at combating substance abuse.

The commitment to the vulnerable population comes as the draft budget for the upcoming financial year proposes increased funding for Safe Spaces and intervention programmes, indicative of a long-term strategy to support those in need.

Accommodations in these Safe Spaces and partner NGOs are provided at no cost, creating transitional shelters where individuals can find not just a roof over their heads but a pathway to empowerment.
