The Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund says some children who grow up abused or exposed to violence end up being perpetrators of gender-based violence.

The Childrens Fund held a discussion at the Inanda Club in Sandton, north of Johannesburg, on the State of Child Violence in South Africa.

Statistics by Unicef show that at least three children are killed in the country each day.

As the world marks Childrens Day, Dr Linda Ncube, Nkomo, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund says the violence that some children experience at a young age in their homes, can lead to societal problems.

Violence against children and how that ends up being gender-based violence when children are victims of violence, when children witness violence, especially the partner violence that they see at homes, it becomes normalised. And then we end up dealing with gender-based violence. We end up dealing with sexual harassment in workplaces, with bullying in workplaces and a lot of intrapersonal violence because we normalise violence in our homes, says Ncube.
