The recent announcement by OpenAI confirms that the long wait of Windows users is about to end. As known by most people, ChatGPT had a major role in popularising AI platforms around the world. Developed by OpenAI, it is regarded as one of the milestones in the enhancement of artificial intelligence. Trained with a massive database, ChatGPT helped people develop engaging and informative content in multiple fields. The versatility and adaptability offered by this platform made it popular among people of all categories including professionals and students. With the evolution of technology and artificial intelligence, ChatGPT has also come up with some new updates and announcements.

The Microsoft Store now offers the ChatGPT software for Windows for download, according to a recent release from OpenAI. Although it was already available as a separate app for Android, iOS, and macOS users, Windows users had to rely on the built-in Copilot app or make use of its website version. According to the latest reports, these inconveniences will end with the new introduction of the ChatGPT app for Windows. Similar to the Mac version, which was introduced earlier this year, the Windows version will also have most of the features enhancing users' experience.

The OpenAI's announcement made through a blog post on X said that an early version of the ChatGPT Windows desktop app is available for its users now. However, the post also noted that during the initial stage, this feature will only be available for the ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu users. Furthermore, the officials have also shared that the Windows version will lack some of the features available on the Mac version in the initial phase. According to the available information, a fully-fledged version will be made available for all users by the end of this year.

The features included in ChatGPT Windows App

OpenAI has already made it clear that most of the features in the Mac version of ChatGPT will be available in the Windows app. The popular feature among them is the dedicated AltSpace key shortcut. This shortcut enables users to access the AI chatbot instantly. The other features include file attachments, where users can upload files, photos, and screenshots to the chatbox directly, the pin-to-dock feature where users can pin the app to their dock for easy access, and the top menu bar icon enabling access to the app through the menu bar. Syncing the history across all the devices and gaining access to all the new updates, versions, and model improvements by OpenAI are the other features available both on Mac and Windows versions. Similar to other versions including website form, the Windows app will also remember the last position used by the users. However, the options for standard and advanced voice modes and options to connect Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive will be the major missing features in the ChatGPT Windows app.
