Charges Against Gwamanda Were Frivolous: Al Jama-ah

Former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamandas party Al Jama-ah says that it knew that the charges against him were frivolous.

Party leader Ganief Hendricks says he is pleased that the matter has been put to rest. This is after fraud charges were provisionally withdrawn against Gwamanda earlier on Tuesday at the Protea Magistrates Court in Soweto.

The National Prosecuting Authority NPA says the decision is premised on the emergence of additional complainants, which then necessitated further investigations.

Hendricks says that Gwamandas position in the party has not been affected by the case.

We knew it was a frivolous case, all charges have been dropped- hes never been charged, the matter was postponed months after months. I was quite happy that that would be the outcome - and now the matter is closed.
