A man suspected of being involved in a cash-in-transit robbery in KwaZulu-Natal two weeks ago has been arrested at a routine police roadblock.
KZN police spokesperson, Col Robert Netshiunda says the man was found in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, two handguns and cash in a backpack.
He says it is believed the man is a member of a gang that bombed a cash-in-transit vehicle in Ndwedwe, north of Durban.
Netshiunda says the taxi that the suspect was travelling in was stopped at a roadblock at the Mvoti toll plaza on the N2.
The suspect, who disguised himself as a family man by travelling with a woman and a young child, was arrested and duly charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspect is believed to be a member of a gang that bombed a cash-in-transit vehicle in Ndwedwe two weeks ago. The suspect will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court on Monday the 2nd of September, he says.
