Carragher: Liverpool Rely Too Much On Salah

Jamie Carragher has defended Mo Salah following Liverpool's Carabao Cup loss, arguing that the Egyptian carries the team's attacking burden.
Mohamed Salah has been in outstanding form this season, recording 32 goals and 22 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. However, the forward has struggled to make an impact in Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, failing to register a shot or create a chance the whole match.
Speaking after the match, Carragher pointed out the Reds over-reliance on Salah and criticized the team's other forwards for not stepping up.
It was probably one of the worst performances Ive seen from Liverpool in a cup final. But theyve given so much this season, and theyve only lost one league game. Its hard to be too critical, but this game exposed areas where Liverpool still need to improve. The former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.
One of those areas, according to Carragher, is the lack of pace and quality in attack beyond Salah.
I almost feel sorry for Mohamed Salah, he continued. He took criticism after the PSG games against possibly the best left-back in the world, Nuno Mendes. He didn't do too much then, and he wasn't great today, but he doesnt get help from the other attackers.
This isn't like the days of Mane and Firmino bailing them out. The other forwards, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo are good players, but they're not great. Liverpool rely on Salah too much, so he doesn't deserve all the criticism after this week.
Carragher believes Liverpool need to sign at least two new attackers in the summer, especially if Salah extends his contract. This game showed that Liverpool need to sign two attackers, not just squad players, but starters alongside Mo Salah, hopefully next season.
With Liverpool now out of all cup competitions, their focus shifts entirely to the Premier League title race. The Reds remain 12 points clear at the top with nine games left, but Carragher insists reinforcements will be needed in the summer.
