Capitec Connect Announces Big Price Cuts On Prepaid Data Bundles

Capitec Banks mobile virtual network operator MVNO, Capitec Connect , has announced big price cuts for its prepaid data bundles.
This follows a Capitec survey showing that 87 of South Africans feel high data costs restrict their access to work, education, and essential opportunities, the MVNO said on Friday.
"Understanding the economic climate is crucial, and we know many South Africans are carefully managing their expenses. That's why we're proactively lowering costs to provide tangible savings for our clients, Head of Capitec Connect Dr Dalene Steyn said.
Affordable data is vital for work, education, and staying connected to loved ones. This price reduction is part of our ongoing commitment to providing simple and affordable solutions that empower our clients."

Steyn cited a Statista report that predicts that South Africa's mobile internet users will surge from 13.82 million in 2024 to 25.83 million by 2029.
Capitec's poll also revealed how South Africans use data as follows:
- 43 use the most data in the afternoon work, study, shopping.
- 32 consume data in the evening streaming, social media.
- 62 said social media eats most of their data.
- 27 cited music and video streaming.
"These insights reveal that data has become an essential enabler of careers, education and staying informed, Steyn explained.
Launched in 2022, Capitec Connect is growing rapidly, adding around 180,000 active users monthly.
The MVNO market in South Africa is highly competitive, with at least 20 players currently. Cell C was the first to launch MVNO infrastructure in 2016 and has remained dominant since then.
