Expansion of the MyCiTi bus serviceA cornerstone of Cape Towns congestion mitigation efforts is the expansion of the MyCiTi bus rapid transit system.
Phase 2A of this project aims to connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont, involving the construction of dedicated bus lanes along Govan Mbeki Road, new stations, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Notably, the city plans to introduce South Africas first elevated ' Sky Circle ' at the intersection of Govan Mbeki Road and Jan Smuts Drive, exclusively for MyCiTi buses .
The city has allocated R6.5 billion for this expansion, including R620 million for additional buses and R438 million for new stops and stations.
