Cape Town Secures R2.8bn Boost To Tackle Loadshedding

Cape Town has locked in R2.8 billion in funding to strengthen its electricity grid, reinforcing its efforts to shield the city from national power failures.

This investment forms part of a broader three-year infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing energy security and reliability.

The City is set to invest nearly R40 billion in infrastructure upgrades between 2024 and 2027, with R4 billion earmarked specifically for electricity grid improvements.

The newly secured funding comes from the German Development Bank KfW through a concessional finance agreement, ensuring long-term affordability for the metro.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis emphasised the significance of the investment, stating that without a stable and modernised grid, the City would struggle to mitigate power disruptions.
