Cape Town On Track For Metro Rail Take Over
The City of Cape Town says its on track to take over the management of the Cape Metro passenger rail services .
This follows the city council adopting the Rail Feasibility Study and Prasa signing a Service Level Agreement.
The study proposes that the City of Cape Town take control of the rail services in order to provide an integrated public transport system.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the devolution will benefit lower income households and local economic growth.
"Weve been trying to get this service level agreement signed since last year and as you know weve been in court with Prasa for a long time now and Im pleased that that case can now fall away. Weve been doing this not only because it's important to hold Prasa accountable for the quality of service that they deliver, but also because it's an important step towards the devolution of full service."
