cape town launches largestever festive season safety operation

In anticipation of a record-breaking influx of visitors this summer, Cape Town is set to roll out its largest-ever festive season safety operation, Cape town Etc reports.

With over 5 000 personnel mobilised, the City's extensive safety plan promises heightened security, clean beaches and enhanced public safety measures to ensure an enjoyable holiday season for both residents and tourists.

The operation, officially launched yesterday along the Table View beachfront, was attended by Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and JP Smith, the mayoral committee member for Safety and Security. This year's deployment will be reinforced by trainees from the Project 1000 learnership programme, contributing to a 4000-strong force of uniformed police and emergency personnel in rotating shifts - the largest festive safety team Cape Town has seen.

The City of Cape Town is ready and excited to welcome tens of thousands of visitors for a record-breaking festive season, said Mayor Hill-Lewis. Our Festive Season Safety Plan ensures everyone can have a safe, enjoyable time in the Mother City. Tourism supports thousands of local jobs, and it's our priority to make sure visitors experience Cape Town's world-renowned attractions with peace of mind.

Enhanced security measures with smart technology

Visitors can expect high-visibility policing at key tourist hotspots, from Table Mountain trails to popular beaches, shopping areas and central business districts. This year, Cape Town's festive season safety operation will feature state-of-the-art technology, including automatic number plate recognition, bodycams on officers, smart dashcam systems and drones monitoring beaches and mountainous areas. As Africa's largest CCTV network, this technology aims to deter crime and aid swift responses to any incidents.
