The V A Waterfront in Cape Town announced that it has signed a power purchase agreement PPA, which will see the tourist attraction source 70 of its power from wind and solar sources.

The waterfront signed the 10-year PPA with Etana energy for 43 GWh of renewable energy a year, starting early 2026.

Etana Energy partners with independent power producers IPPs nationwide to provide clients with renewable energy solutions via the national grid. Clients pay Etana Energy for the renewable energy they consume, and they pay Eskom or the municipality for the remaining energy consumed, along with a wheeling fee to use the grid.

This model enables IPPs to build their wind and solar projects where those resources are most abundant, the company says.

90 of the locations emissions stem from energy purchases, says Andr Theys , Executive Manager of Operations at V A Waterfront.
