Cape Town: Africas Tech Hub On The Rise

Cape Town is swiftly rising as a prominent technology hub in Africa, earning accolades such as "Africa's Tech Capital" and "Startup Capital of Africa." With a thriving ecosystem of startups, incubators, and accelerators, the city is drawing significant investment and talent.

The Cape Town-Stellenbosch corridor is home to over 450 tech firms, employing more than 40,000 people, which exceeds the combined tech ecosystems of Nairobi and Lagos. Nearly 60 of South Africa's startups are based in the city, with prominent companies like Yoco, Aerobotics, SweepSouth, and JUMO leading the way.

The city boasts one of Africa's largest open-access fibre networks, with internet penetration reaching 63. Cape Town fosters innovation through more than 30 co-working spaces and over 22 active incubators and accelerators, including CiTi, which has supported the growth of over 2,000 businesses since 1999.

Top-tier universities, such as the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, contribute to a skilled workforce, with Cape Town being home to 38 of South Africa's developers.

Cape Town has attracted considerable foreign direct investment, particularly in software and IT services. The city has also garnered global attention by hosting major events like the Earthshot Prize Week, highlighting its role in promoting environmental innovation.
