Cameroon: Aigle Royal Players Attack Match Officials After Usa Defeat
Aigle Royal of Menoua Players and Staff Face Disciplinary Action After Attempted Attack on Match Officials
Players and staff of Aigle Royal of Menoua could face serious consequences following leaked footage showing them attempting to attack the match officials after their weekend game against Union Sportif of Abong Mbang in Bagofit.
The match, part of the second round of the MTN Elite Two championship, ended in a 1-0 victory for Union Sportif, marking their first win of the season after a goalless draw in their opening match. However, the game was overshadowed by disturbing scenes that unfolded after the final whistle.
Angry Aigle Royal players, convinced that the referees had influenced the outcome, turned on the match officials. The situation escalated to the point where the national Gendarmerie had to intervene to protect the referees and ensure their safety.
Thanks to the swift action of the national defense forces, the situation was quickly brought under control before it could escalate further.
Given the severity of the incident, Aigle Royal players involved in the altercation could be summoned to the FECAFOOT disciplinary committee and face significant sanctions, especially considering previous precedents in similar cases.
