Calm Returns To Sa/moz Birder
Calm has returned to South Africas Komatipoort border with Mozambique on the N4.
According to a Freight News report, transporters using the border facilities say that this morning a sense of calm had returned to the Mozambican side of the border at Komatipoort.
This followed unrest in the country since the October 9 election results were issued. Disputing the official result, which left the ruling party for the past 49 years in power, independent candidate Venncio Mondlane called for public protests.
WhatsApp posts on a transporters channel indicated that it was safe to travel from the Komatipoort border post to the Port of Maputo afterelection protestors yesterday forced trucks to park across the road, blocking access to the border control area.
During the protests, tyres were set alight on the road near a toll plaza outside Maputo.
