If you have a young artist at home, it's time to get out the colored pencils, markers and crayons. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is holding an art contest for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. They are being asked to fill out a Florida State-fish art contest entry form , along with:
- Creating an original piece of art from the official fish list .
- A piece of creative writing, no more than a page long about the chosen species (required for grades 4-12)
Wildlife Forever organizes the competition each year and coordinates their efforts with host states around the country.
The organization will announce the winners on their website approximately one month after the closing of the contest. The FWC will also announce the winners on social media and its website.
One first-place winner and one runner-up will be selected from each grade bracket (kindergarten through third grade, fourth through sixth grade, seventh through ninth grade, and tenth through twelfth grade), one for illustrating the best freshwater fish species and one for the best saltwater fish species.
All first-place winners will advance to the National Competition to be judged for top prizes, such as the Best of Show and will have their artwork displayed in the FWC's freshwater or saltwater regulations guide. A copy of the regulations guide will be included with the certificate.
