By-elections Begin Smoothly In Gauteng: Iec

By-elections got off to a smooth start in Gauteng with 29 candidates from 16 political parties contesting in six wards across Gauteng, Limpopo, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Speaking outside a voting station in Ward 82 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, Provincial Electoral Officer for Gauteng, Thabo Masemula says the day has gone off without a glitch.

"We had a very successful day yesterday when we were conducting the special votes and this morning we had a plain sailing start. All our logistics are in place. All voting stations in this ward, Ward 82, opened on time. However, we are not only forecasting on this ward. We have two ward by-elections as a province. The other ward is Ward 99 which is situated in Linden and the same report Ive received from my team is that we had a very good start and all our voting stations opened on time.
