African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Secretary, TK Nciza, says the removal of Cilliers Brink as Tshwane mayor through a motion of no confidence is a victorious move for the people of the city.

Councillors in the Tshwane Metro have voted in support of a motion of no confidence to remove Brink, bringing his 18-month tenure to an end.

There are 120 councilors who voted in favour of the motion and 87 against, with one abstention.

Nciza says this was long overdue. Brink is out who has been behaving like a racist who didnt care about our people. So today is historical and we believe the new leadership of Tshwane will change the outlook of Tshwane . We need finances that are stabilised. We need to make sure that we change the situation of Tshwane , we must not play politics. Its in the interest of the provincial and national governments to make sure that Tshwane Metro is functioning. We must make sure we defend the workers of Tshwane , we must make sure the residents get services and that the living conditions of the people of Tshwane change.

In a statement, the Democratic Alliance (DA) expresses disappointment at Brinks removal, saying that the people of Tshwane deserve better.
