Manchester United has dismissed Erik ten Hag as manager after a string of underwhelming performances, the final blow being Sundays loss to West Ham United. The club currently sits 14th in the Premier League, seven points adrift of the Champions League qualification spots.
Ten Hag's tenure ends after two and a half years, despite a solid first season that saw a third-place finish and Carabao Cup victory. The Dutchman also led United to an FA Cup win over Manchester City last season, but the team's ongoing struggles have forced United to make a change.
Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the clubs staff in the offseason, will take over in an interim capacity. A permanent successor has yet to be named, though the club has been linked to various top managers, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, and Roberto De Zerbi.
Despite backing Erik ten Hag in the summer transfer window, with major signings such as Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, United's slow start to the season prompted CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth to recommend the change.
