The Brasse Vannie Kaap BVK documentary , written and directed by Lauren Scholtz, brings to life the essence of the iconic hip hop group that took the Cape Flats by storm in the 1990s.

The documentary by Dala Films received an accolade at the Berlin Indie Film Festival 2024 - Best director documentary.

The film walks viewers through the rise of BVK, a group that made Afrikaans hip-hop their own by using Afrikaaps, the local slang, to voice the stories of their community.DJ Ready D real name Deon Daniels was a part of the group he appears in the documentary which is streaming on Showmax.

Speaking to IOL, DJ Ready D expressed his excitement over the documentarys international recognition. What truly amazes me is the global interest in our journey, our stories, and even our language, music, and the culture surrounding it, he said.
