Bergville College Fights Mec's Move To Shut Down School

The board of trustees at Bergville College in the Eastern Cape has taken significant legal action by applying for an urgent interdict against Education MEC Fundile Gade.
This follows the decision by Gade to withdraw the schools registration in response to the shocking alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl within its premises in in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
The urgent application, filed in the High Court in Makhanda, aims to suspend MEC Gade's decision pending a review of the case.
The board contends that the decision jeopardises the institutions future and impacts the education of its students, who deserve a safe and stable learning environment.
This development has emerged in the aftermath of the alleged assault on the young student identified as Cwecwe, which has sent shockwaves throughout the community and raised serious concerns about child safety in schools across the province.
