The Beach Polo World Cup , one of the world's most prestigious polo tournaments, is transforming South Beach into a hotspot for sport, luxury, and excitement this weekend.

The event, hosted by Melissa Ganzi, president and owner of the World Polo League and Grand Champions Polo Club, features eight international teams and over 120 horses competing along the shoreline between 21st and 22nd streets.

"To see the beautiful horses on the beach, and their athleticism, is incredible," Ganzi said.

Dubbed "hockey on horseback," polo is a game of speed and strategy. Ganzi dismissed comparisons to croquet, saying polo delivers far more adrenaline.

"Croquet is not exciting. I mean, no. Hockey - fun - adrenaline - hockey on horseback," she added.
