Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says they have started the process of banning the use of pesticides in schools.
This follows an escalation in incidents of food-borne illnesses in schools.
The Gauteng provincial government has announced that 23 children have died in the province due to food-borne illnesses.
Gwarube has urged schools to remove pesticides to ensure the safety of its nutrition programme.
We have partnered with the Department of Health to say we will be a part of the solution with the NICD. I am moving to ban such pesticides from being in school to begin with because in some schools they store the school nutrition program food at the school.
