Banyana Banyana will be jetting off to Europe soon for two international friendly matches at the end of the month. They will play against Denmark and England. The matches will serve as a preparation for next years Women Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON tournament.
Banyana Banyana were crowned champions of Africa for the first time in 2022. They defeated the host nation, Morocco, 2-1, thanks to Hildah Magaias brace.
Coach Desiree Ellis is working around the clock to make sure that her team is ready to successfully defend their title next year. She selected a strong squad of 24 players for the upcoming friendlies against Denmark and England, two countries that will pose different challenges ahead of next years WAFCON tournament.
"England are not only the European champions, but they are also world cup finalists, number two in the world and Denmark number 12. Two different types of teams. Denmark like all the Scandinavian teams, very physical but can also play, with England, a little different style of play, long and short balls, total football," Ellis explains.
Banyana will play against Denmark on the 25 of October, before facing England four days later. Banyana assistant coach, Thinasonke Mbuli, will not be travelling to Europe. Mbuli recently helped the University of the Western Cape to qualify for their first CAF Champions League.
