Bank Card Users Warned Against Increase In Tap And Go Fraud
The National Financial Ombud Scheme has asked bank card users to be vigilant as fraudsters may try to use the tap-and-go function on cards and phones to make unauthorized transactions.
This as the Scheme has sent out a warning following a spike in fraudulent transactions due to the ease of use of tap-and-go bank cards.
Nerosha Maseti, Lead Ombud for the Banking Division at the Scheme, elaborates, What we see in terms of what the scam looks like, we get a lot of complaints from consumers that have reported loss or stolen cards and the subsequently find that there are unauthorized transactions on those accounts, usually a lot of tap and go transactions which they cannot account for. And then when we look at it, we find that they didnt report the card or the phone or the device stolen and as such there has been these tap and go transactions which has allowed the fraudsters to gain access to their funds and the customers suffer losses.
