bail hearing of stoman accused of running over child continues

The bail hearing of 70-year-old Lutzville farmer Christoffel Stoman is set to continue in the Vredendal Magistrates Court in the Western Cape.

Stoman was arrested last month after allegedly running over a six-year-old boy and his mother while they were walking in the area, leaving the boy with fractures in both legs.

The boy was immediately taken to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The Executive director of the Rural and Farmworkers Development Organisation, Billy Claasen, has strongly condemned Stomans actions, accusing him of running over the child after accusing him of stealing fruit.

Claasen has called for the full force of the law to be applied and has vowed to protest against Stomans release on bail.
