Hugo Broos's Bafana Bafana have officially qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON after Congo Brazzavilles 3-2 loss to South Sudan on Thursday, Cape town Etc reports.
The South African national team, currently in Kampala for their upcoming qualifier against Uganda, received the news shortly after arriving in Uganda's capital.
The defeat of Congo means they can no longer catch up to South Africas points tally in Group K. Bafana Bafana currently have eight points, secured from two wins and two draws, while Uganda leads the group with 10 points from three wins and a draw. Even if South Africa loses their remaining matches, they will still qualify for the tournament as runners-up in the group, with Congo trailing behind on four points and only one game left to play.
Despite already securing qualification, Brooss side is determined to push for maximum points in their final two qualifiers. They will face Uganda on Friday at the Mandela National Stadium, followed by a home fixture against South Sudan at DHL Stadium on Tuesday. South Africa and Uganda played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture in Johannesburg.
Broos, who has overseen significant progress with Bafana Bafana, emphasised the importance of consistency and building team chemistry, especially as South Africa prepares for a challenging match against Uganda.
