Atns-related Disruption Hits George
FlySafair and Airlink flights to and from George on January 12 were delayed and cancelled due to an ongoing suspension of Instrument Landing System ILS flight procedures for the airports runway 11.
Air Traffic and Navigation Services ATNS notified airlines and passengers that George Airport was experiencing flight disruptions due to severe weather conditions, including rain, strong winds and a low cloud base.
ATNS confirmed that runway 11s ILS was still under maintenance.
FlySafair was forced to cancel 10 flights on January 12. These cancellations are a direct result of suspended procedures caused by ATNSs failure to renew the necessary approvals in time. While the circumstances are beyond our control, we have taken swift action to mitigate the inconvenience by adding extra flights and offering support to affected customers, FlySafair said in a notice.
According to Mphilo Dlamini , Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications at ATNS Head Office, the delay in obtaining approval for the ILS flight procedure for runway 11 at George Airport is being addressed.
