Annual Big Walk Aims To Promote Social Cohesion

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture says the Annual Big Walk which is currently taking place in the City of Tshwane is aimed at promoting social cohesion and encouraging people to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Thousands of people from across Gauteng gathered at Fountains Valley this morning, to participate in the annual event.

Deputy Minister Peace Mabe says, This is part of promoting social cohesion. We want our communities to be active. An active nation means we will be spending less money on budgets for health. So its an annual event that we think we are going to sustain as the department and you can see people are here and they are happy. Families are here as well because it is not about winning but its about bringing people together.

This years event takes place under the theme Walk for your Health.

The Big Walk comprises three categories including 5km, 10km and 15km races.
