The ANC Womens League ANCWL says this weeks march to the Union Buildings will also raise awareness on the impact that the recent spaza shop crisis has on female headed households.

The ANC Womens League briefed the media today ahead of its march on gender-based violence against women and children this Friday in Pretoria.

ANCWL Secretary-General Nokuthula Nqaba says that the League is confident that government will find a solution to this current crisis.

The march to the seat of government in our collective commitment to defend our children from food borne illnesses, where the province of Gauteng this year alone has been plagued with almost 30 fatalities of children who consumed snacks and hawker food from unregulated spaza shops and vendors. We are concerned about the effect this has on female headed households in our country and we hope that the government will soon find solutions to this tragic occurrence.
