Political Analyst Professor Ntsikelelo Breakfast says if the ANC leadership is not careful, voters will ultimately feel they are better off under the GNU than under the sole governance of the ANC.

His comments come after President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his confidence in the resilience of the GNU and that an alternative to the pact is just too ghastly to contemplate.

Ramaphosa further said a move away from the GNU is tantamount to moving away from the people of South Africa.

As the party intensifies its renewal programme, in a bid to stage a comeback, Professor Breakfast warns that what he views as the ANCs complacency under the GNU has the potential to reduce it to insignificance.

What might happen going forward is that if the ANC does not make right of its wrongs, some people might think the country is better off without the ANC and not vote for the ANC. So, the ANC will have a worse slippery slope than what it has had and lose more votes, which will make it worse than a rural party, says Breakfast.
