anc vows to continue engaging with us despite tensions

ANC NEC member Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says that the party has resolved to continue engaging with the Trump administration and continue pursuing a relationship with the US in the midst of tense relations between the two countries.

He was addressing the media on the second day of the ANCs four-day NEC meeting currently under way in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg to address various matters affecting the party and its GNU members.

Ramokgopa said that the ANC does not take South Africas relationship with the US for granted.

The President will find a way of ensuring that we continue to have a path of engagement with the US administration. So, if the intention is the blacklisting of certain ANC leaders, its the choice that theyre making but our view is that we will continue to invest in that relationship, because its of significant importance to us. Of course, it will be naive of us not to admit that some of the executive orders to the extent that there could be an introduction of a tariff levied on goods from South Africa entering the United State. The prospect of us being removed from AGOA will have significant implications on the South African economy, says Ramokgopa.
