Anc Summit To Tackle Local Government Issues In North West
The poor state of local government in the North West is on the agenda at a summit organised by the African National Congress ANC Provincial Executive Committee in Potchefstroom.
The summit is taking place ahead of the provincial lekgotla, which is expected to be held from Sunday to Monday.
Many municipalities in the province are dysfunctional, with municipalities such as Ditsobotla, Tswaing and Mamusa among those that are failing to pay their workers.
ANC provincial chairperson Nono Maloyi says the aim of the summit is to address the needs of the North West residents.
"The purpose of this summit is to put our heads together and say what is it that we need to do as deployees of the African National Congress, but secondly as servants of the people, to ensure that we attend to the needs of our people in the North West province. You will recall that we did speak about challenges that we are facing, whether it is potholes, challenges of water, streetlights that are not working and so on, so we are doing that assessment."
