Anc Succession: Kubayi Denies Instructing Npa To Charge Paul Mashatile

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has denied instructing the National Prosecuting Authority NPA to prosecute Deputy President Paul Mashatile .
Over the weekend, Sunday World reported on alleged WhatsApp messages purportedly between a cabinet minister and an NPA official.
In the alleged chat, the purported minister allegedly tells the purported official to please proceed with the prosecution, after which the official allegedly states, Its not often that you get to charge a deputy president of a country.
WhatsApp chat on charging Mashatile is fake - KubayiIn a statement on Sunday 30 March, Kubayis Department said the WhatsApp conversation features a cellphone number closely resembling that of the Minister.
It described it as fake and fabricated, adding, The Minister strongly condemns this malicious and orchestrated smear campaign, which seeks to create division and pit her against the Deputy President.
This is part of an orchestrated campaign, through certain unethical sections of the media, which seeks to tarnish the image of the Minister.
According to Kubayi, the alleged chat is deliberate disinformation and a direct attack on the stability of both the government and the justice system.
Additionally, it falsely claims that the authorisation to prosecute has the concurrence of the President, purportedly communicated through the Minister in the Presidency, the Department adds.
It further insinuates that the Ministers are involved in leaking information in collaboration with journalists.
The Minister emphasises that neither she nor anyone else has the authority to direct the NPA on prosecutorial decisions. The NPA is expected to execute its mandate impartially, without fear or favour, regardless of the individual involved or their stature.
