Anc Needs Renewal And Restoration To Honour Tambos Legacy

Gauteng African National Congress ANC chairperson Panyaza Lesufi says that the party will not betray Oliver Tambos legacy, despite the electoral setback encountered at the 29 May polls.

This is as the party suffered one of its worst setbacks in the 2024 general elections where it lost its majority for the first time in 30 years.

Lesufi was speaking at the commemoration ceremony held for the late anti-apartheid stalwart in Wattville, Ekurhuleni today.

We owe it to him, to declare to him that unfortunately on the 29 May this year we suffered a major setback. We owe it to him, to declare to OR Tambo that regardless of this setback, regardless of this pain, regardless of these difficult challenges, betrayal is not an option. Well never betray you OR Tambo, well never betray your soul, well never betray your legacy.

Meanwhile, ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has called for the speedy renewal of the party to boost its support in memory of Tambo.
