Anc Nec Opts To Reconfigure Gauteng And Kzn Pecs

The African National Congress ANC National Executive Committee NEC has decided not to dissolve its Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provincial structures and has instead opted to call it the reconfiguration of the two Provincial Executive Councils PEC within the framework of the partys constitution.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party has agreed that not taking any action is not a solution to the issue of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

He was briefing the media on the outcomes of the NEC meeting this weekend, where the partys poor performance in the two provinces in the 2024 elections was discussed.

Mbalula says the ANC has no choice but to intervene in the provincial structures, as it fears it may lose Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal the same way it lost the Western Cape to the Democratic Alliance.

He says the unity of the ANC must be the objective when dealing with KZN and Gauteng. He adds that the party leadership in the two provinces must make a proposal on the reconfiguration of the leadership to the National Working Committee in a weeks time.
