The African National Congress (ANC) is remaining mum on the future of the partys KwaZulu-Natal structure following its dismal performance in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

The party slumped to its lowest share following the disruption of former ANC President Jacob Zumas uMkhonto we Sizwe Political Party, which led the province in terms of numbers at the May polls.

The new entrant in the political landscape continues to mobilise and consolidate its structures, prompting the question of whether the ANC will be able to regain lost ground in KZN with its current Provincial Executive Committees (PEC) or should it be disbanded?

In a short media briefing on Saturday, ANC Acting National Spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi said that a decision on the structure will be communicated after the special NEC meeting.

The national working committee did have a discussion about our visit to KwaZulu-natal in the previous month, but that work is still under review because we are trying to have a comprehensive understanding of the state of the organisation across the country. As we did indicate earlier, a decision about what we do with respect to the structures of the ANC will be communicated after the special ANC meeting that we said will sit either at the end of August or now mid-September.
