The African National Congress ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has warned that party members who engage in succession debates prematurely will be disciplined.
Mbalula made the comments at a media briefing at Luthuli House while delivering the outcomes of the ANCs recent special National Executive Committee NEC meeting.
The meeting focussed on interventions to renew the party, build the capacity of branches and improve public accountability.
Mbalula says such leadership debates detract from the implementation of the partys mandate and resolutions.
He says, "The NEC resolved that a guiding framework on leadership issues and processes should be developed, circulated to all structures and discussed. Once adopted, this framework will guide leadership processes at branch, regional, provincial and national levels. The ANCs Electoral Committee, led by Comrade Kgalema Motlanthe, will be tasked with examining the influence of money in leadership elections."
