Anc Limpopo Wants Proportional Seat Allocation Process Reviewed
The African National Congress ANC in Limpopo has announced plans to request its members in the National Assembly to initiate a review of a section of the Municipal Structures Act. This part of the Act addresses the allocation of proportional representative PR seats in municipalities.
The party has expressed dissatisfaction with the current system, particularly in Thabazimbi, where it received 43 of voter support and secured 10 ward seats but was not allocated any PR seats. The ANC argues that this discrepancy undermines fair representation.
Additionally, Wednesdays municipal ward by-elections resulted in another hung council in Thabazimbi. The ANC is now in need of two more seats to form a majority and govern the municipality. The partys call for a review aims to address these issues and ensure more equitable seat allocations in future elections.
