The ANC in the Eastern Cape recently hosted the 60th anniversary of the execution of three struggle stalwarts.
Vuyisile Mini, Wilson Khayingo and Zinakile Mkaba were the first three members of the ANCs military arm to be executed by the apartheid government on November 6, 1964, at the Pretoria Central Prison.
Nomsa Mkaba, the granddaughter of Zinakile Mkaba, says their sacrifice has left a lasting legacy in the fight against apartheid.
We are excited that every year this day is remembered and recognized. At least we know that they didnt die for nothing. They died for the freedom of the black people, she said.
She adds, Although there are a lot of things that need to be done, we are hoping after 30 years of democracy and that things will change for the better.
