The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member Febe Potgieter-Gqubule says the party finds itself in a situation where it has to adapt or die.
The political education subcommittee member Potgieter-Gqubule, briefed the media in Boksburg in Ekurhuleni, on the assessment that the ANC NEC made following its electoral decline.
Breakaway parties like the MK Party, a low voter turnout, and the state of the organisation were some of the reasons cited for the partys poor performance.
The NEC member says the ANC has identified three key priorities that the party must pay attention to, including improving governance, growing the economy, and the renewal of the party.
Because we accept as a National Executive Committee that we have to adapt or perish. Adapt in a sense that it is simply not about repeating all the things we have said but in a genuine way looking at how you modernise an organisation thats 112-years-old, but exists in todays movement in a country that has changed. How do we appeal to young people? How do we appeal to workers? how do you appeal to women? how do you appeal to the LGBTQI?
