anc accuses da of trying to use the budget to block transformation

The African National Congress ANC has lashed out at the Democratic Alliance DA for being against the 0,5 VAT increase .

The DA and other parties including the EFF, MK Party and the ATM say they will not support the passing of the budget.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the DA promised to support the 0,5 increase only if the ANC reviewed the labour laws as well as the recently passed the Basic Education Law Amendment Act and the Expropriation Act.

Mbalula was speaking at a media briefing in Johannesburg.

The DA seeks to use the budget process as leverage to renegotiate its role within the GNU, not because its determined to advance an agenda that prioritize privilege over progress which to us is blocking transformation. We know that the DA would have accepted the 0,5 if we backtracked on transformation acts like BELA Act, Expropriation Act and the NHI and in this particular instance, we dont think that those are policy matters that you must use the Budget to basically block transformation, says Mbalula.
